Practical negotiation

Our negotiations skills workshops are designed to prepare principally mid-tier lawyers to step up to leading transaction negotiations.

The first workshop draws on the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Modes Instrument in assessing the participants’ negotiating styles and introducing the five conflict-handling modes (competing, collaborating, compromising, avoiding and accommodating), and helps participants understand how the different modes can be used to achieve a negotiating aim.

The second workshop is a practical negotiation exercise in which participants conduct facilitated negotiations of the terms of an M&A agreement against their fellow participants, while being video recorded and subject to continuous feedback. Other skills that are practiced include giving feedback to clients and taking their instructions, and document drafting.
