Raymond Pierce

Ray is a former police officer in the UK and Hong Kong, who spent most of his 23 year career investigating organised and serious crime and Triad-related offences until he retired as a Senior Superintendent in June 1997.

He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1995 and to the Hong Kong Bar in 1997, since when he has been a practicing Barrister-at-Law, with numerous reported cases in the higher courts.  He has appeared in the courts of Hong Kong at all levels and has also practised in Fiji, both as Prosecutor and Defence Counsel.

In addition to being in private practice in Hong Kong, Ray spent five years (2003-2008) as a Teaching Consultant with the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong where he taught Civil, Criminal and Trial Advocacy, Criminal Procedure and Professional Practice for the Department of Legal Education.  He co-designed and delivered the Trial Advocacy Elective programme which continues to be used at the University today.  He is an adjunct Lecturer and Examiner for HKUSPACE.

Ray is an adjunct member of NITA (the National Institute for Trial Advocacy) and has taught trial advocacy for practising trial attorneys in the USA.  He co-designed and delivered the Hong Kong Law Society Structured Advocacy programme for solicitors and is currently teaching Head II Criminal Procedure, Head IV Professional Practice and Head V Common Law, on the Hong Kong Law Society Overseas Lawyers Qualification Examination (OLQE).  He was also formerly an examiner for the Hong Kong Bar Barristers Qualification Examination.
